Organization development scene in Asia: the case of Singapore
Article Abstract:
Research analyzing organizational development (OD) in Singapore surveyed 49 companies to see how firms are coping with change. Research results indicate that many Asian firms are not accustomed to thinking about and planning for technological, structural, or behavioral change. Only established, large firms seem to have OD programs in Singapore. Results also show that most programs are focused on behavioral change. Additionally, results reveal that the practice of OD is hampered in Singapore because the culture does not encourage a climate of open discussion within organizations. Solutions to OD program implementation may have to come through efforts of academia and through practitioners. However, cultural factors must be considered when selecting appropriate OD intervention strategies.

Career orientations and work outcomes among industrial R&D professionals
Article Abstract:
The performance and work attitudes of industrial R&D professionals were examined. The participants in the study were 165 R&D professionals in Singapore. The results indicated that professional/scientific and managerial factors influenced career orientations. There was a strong negative relationship between turnover intentions and both career orientations. The managerial orientation was associated with organization-based performance, and the professional-scientific orientation was associated with scientific performance.
