Practitioner review: routes from research to clinical practice in child psychiatry: retrospect and prospect
Article Abstract:
Medical research/practice including child psychiatry has undergone a revolution since 1958. Transformations in clinical child psychiatry have been profound, with a strong awareness in the 1990s of the value of differential diagnosis and of the different interpretations and prognostic implications linked with different child psychiatric disorders. Treatments in the 1990s vary from those in the 1950s in their focus on real-life problems/challenges, cognitive processing of experiences, active coping and problem-solving strategies and behavioral contingencies and consequences.

Developmental catch-up, and deficit, following adoption after severe global early privation
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the extent of developmental deficit and catch-up of Romanian children subsequent to their adoption into stable families after severe global early privation. One hundred one four to six year-old Romanian children with severe development impairment were involved in the study. The results indicate that nearly complete catch-up, both physically and intellectually, was exhibited by children who entered the UK before six months of age. Those who were older also showed impressive developmental catch-up, but cognitive development was incomplete.
