Predictors of bone mineral density in patients with eating disorders
Article Abstract:
Low bone mineral density is a known phenomenon in anorexia nervosa. A study looked at the effects of clinical predictors on bone mineral density in patients with eating disorders. SPSS was used to analyze data and multiple group comparisons were undertaken using the analysis of variance (ANOVA) method. Multiple regression analysis showed that the best predict of current bone mineral density is current weight after correction for age and height. The data and study do not support a major role of gonadal hormones in treating bone loss in eating disorders.

Serotonergic agents in the treatment of hypothalamic obesity syndrome
Article Abstract:
Serotonergic agents have little effect on hyperphagia and hypothalamic obesity. Treatment with fluoxetine or fenfluramine has no effect on food intake or body weight in a patient with severe hyperphagia, obesity, and a hypothalamic lesion. The patient's hyperphagia, obesity, and disturbance in sleep appear to be due to damage to the hypothalamus. The serotonergic agents fail to act as they probably exert their action through intact hypothalamic nuclei.

Physical activity, total energy expenditure, and food intake in grossly obese and normal weight women
Article Abstract:
A study conducted on 11 obese women during inpatient treatment at the Roseneck Hospital for Behavioral Medicine revealed that energy expenditure in these women was high for moderate physical activities such as ascending and descending the stairs. The patients maintained a diary in which they noted their food intake and physical activity. The study revealed that obese patients underestimated food intake, and seldom engaged in sport activities.
