Rule-governed behavior and organizational behavior management: an analysis of interventions
Article Abstract:
An analysis of interventions for rule-governed behavior is presented. Research indicated that all previous studies used indirect-acting contingencies which were similar to reinforcement and avoidance contingencies. Analysis indicated natural contingencies as ineffective in controlling behavior and direct-acting escape and punishment contingencies are factors of effectiveness in intervention contingencies if rules describing the contingencies are formulated.

A theory of rule-governed behavior and organizational behavior management
Article Abstract:
Control in an organizational setting is an example of rule-governed behavior. Rule governed behavior is based on indirect-acting contingencies wherein the outcome to a contingency reinforces that action. The outcome is nota direct acting stimulus to the contingency in that reinforcement is not immediate nor sizable. Thus, rules which are commonly set by managers or supervisors, indirectly control actions in a corporate setting.
