Screening for suicidal ideation in children and adolescents: methodological considerations
Article Abstract:
Researchers report the necessity of considering methodological issues carefully when investigating suicide risk in adolescents. Research amongst children and mothers where the mother was depressed, and children and mothers where the mothers had no psychiatric diagnosis, revealed different patterns of youth suicidality reporting. The first group of mothers and children had a higher discrepancy between mother's and child's reporting of suicidality in the children. The format of reporting suicidal ideation also significantly affects suicide risk assessment reliability.

IQ scores among homeless older adolescents: characteristics of intellectual performance and associations with psychosocial functioning
Article Abstract:
IQ scores in homeless older adolescents are not connected with duration of homelessness or the age at which the individual left home, according to research among 50 homeless older adolescents. This research involved administering the complete Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R). It was found that intellectual functioning corresponded closely to properties of the WAIS-R normative sample. Average intellectual performance compared closely with the general population.

Depression, suicidal ideation and STD-related risk in homeless older adolescents
Article Abstract:
A study of depression and risky sexual behavior in homeless adolescents showed that depression was associated with a higher risk for sexually transmitted diseases. Suicidal thoughts were not associated with risk taking sexual behavior, but were associated with a higher rate of drug use.
