Social and emotional adjustment in children affected with Gilles de la Tourette's Syndrome: Associations with ADHD and family functioning
Article Abstract:
The social-emotional functioning among children with Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome (TS) alone and those with TS and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) were compared. The contribution of family emotion expression and conflict to the social competence of such children was also examined. Children with TS seemed to be at risk for problems in the internalizing domain, but those with TS and ADHD were at increased risk for externalizing problems.

Fine-motor skill deficits in childhood predict adulthood tic severity and global psychosocial functioning in Tourette's syndrome
Article Abstract:
Thirty-two children, aged 8-14, with Tourette's syndrome (TS) underwent clinical evaluation and a focused neuropsychological testing battery consisting of the Purdue Pegboard, Beery Visual-Motor Integration (VMI), and the Rey-Osterreith Complex Figure Task (RCFT). It was observed that none of the neuropsychological tests were useful in predicting the future course of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms in TS patients.

Pathogenesis of Tourette's syndrome
Article Abstract:
Tourette's syndrome pathogenesis model includes phenomenology, natural history, genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors and neurobiological substrates. The disease has a wide range of motor and phonic tic symptoms including, sudden, repetitive movements, gestures or utterances. Twin and family studies indicate that genetic factors affect the transmission and expression of the syndrome, while epigenetic and environmental factors determine its nature and severity. Evidence suggests the involvement of cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical circuits and certain neurotransmitters.
