Surviving the care system: education and resilience
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on a group of successful people who had grown up in institutional care, using educational achievement as a marker. The pre-care background and experiences of the successful group were found to be generally typical of children in the care system. A risk and resilience framework was used to identify the protective factors which enabled the successful group to achieve a life different from their siblings and peers. Personal accounts revealed that success in education was a very significant factor.

Self-image, the smoker stereotype and cigarette smoking: developmental patterns from fifth through eighth grade
Article Abstract:
The smoker's self-image and the smoker stereotype increases with age. Responses of fifth through eighth graders surveyed as to nine dimensions showing coolness, intelligence and sociability show that the self-image does not increase with smoking. Self-consistency becomes more important with age. Smoking for self-enhancement applies only to the cool trait, to females and non-Hispanic whites. Smoking is used as a way of self-identification.

Identity status and empathic response patterns: a multidimensional investigation
Article Abstract:
The multidimensional empathic response models for late adolescent undergraduate students were studied based on their identity status. Results showed that empathic concern has a statistically significant positive linear relationship with the identity status hierarchy. Cognitive empathy had a statistically significant positive relationship and empathic distress had a statistically significant negative relationship with identity exploration.
