The effects of different tasks on the comprehension and production of idioms in children
Article Abstract:
Literal orientation is more evident in younger children than older children, who are more idiomatically oriented. Both groups have more difficulty in producing idiomatic expression than comprehending them. Development of figurative language can play a major role in the understanding of both semantic and cognitive development. The study utilized a Model of the Development of Figurative Competence to understand the acquisition of idioms.
