The effects of maternal attributions on parenting: an experimental analysis
Article Abstract:
A research on mothers' attribution for child misbehavior and mothers' parenting was conducted. The participants comprised of 44 Caucasian mothers with 24-42-month-old toddlers. The experimental manipulation of mothers' attribution showed varying effects on discipline styles and anger and on children's affect. Mothers of children who were reported to be intentionally misbehaving were more overreactive in their discipline and display of anger, causing their children to become upset.

Marital adjustment, child-rearing disagreements, and overreactive parenting: Predicting child behavior problems
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis that the relation between marital adjustment and children's behavior problems is mediated by child-rearing disagreements, whose effects are mediated by parents' overreactive discipline, is evaluated. The findings indicate that child-rearing disagreements always mediated the relation of marital adjustment and child behavior problems and it is found that more variance is accounted for in mothers' than fathers' ratings.

Child-related disagreements, verbal aggression, and children's internalizing and externalizing behavior problems
Article Abstract:
Dual-income parents with an oldest child 18-60 months of age were tested on the Child-Rearing Disagreements Scale, the Child Behavior Checklist and the Verbal Aggression subscale of the conflicts and Problem-Solving Scale. Verbal aggression did not moderate the link between child-related disagreements and child-behavior problems for either mothers or for fathers.
