The impact of an antiamphetamine law on juvenile delinquency in Taiwan
Article Abstract:
The results of a study examining the effect on juvenile delinquency in Taiwan of an amphetamine law passed in 1980 supported results found in US experience, that criminalization of victimless offenses often creates a new set of offenders and causes a burden on the court system. Criminalizing the possession and use of amphetamines in Taiwan caused an increase in the number of arrests of youths who were otherwise law-obedient members of society. The study also found a change in gender ratio, with more girls being arrested than boys.
