The long-term risks in the short-term benefits: perceptions of potentially addictive activities
Article Abstract:
This study investigates the decision-making processes involved in taking health risks to obtain benefits from pleasure-seeking activities such as alcohol or drug use. Results indicate that subjects who underestimated the gratification from drugs and the risk of addiction reported significantly higher levels of experimentation and drug problems.

This article examines factors associated with surrogate decision-making regarding life-sustaining terminal care for close friends and relatives. Findings indicate that surrogate decision-makers' predictions regarding the end-of-life care preferences of another individual are significantly influenced by their own treatment preferences.
