The origins of the correlations between tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis use during adolescence
Article Abstract:
Several studies have considered the correlations or comorbidities between tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use during adolescence and young adulthood, using dichotomous and continuous measures. The utility of a common syndrome model to explain the correlations between tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use in adolescence is explored, using information from Jessor and Jessor's problem behaviour theory. The results provide strong support for the view that correlations between tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use in adolescence, arise largely from common risk factors or sources of vulnerability already present.

Early reading difficulties and later conduct problems
Article Abstract:
The relationships between early reading difficulties and later conduct problems were investigated in a sample of New Zealand children studied from the point of school entry to the age of 16. Results revealed that children with early reading difficulties had increased rates of conduct problems up to the age of 16 years. This was more evident for boys but tended to reduce with increasing age. However, the results were insufficient in establishing significant associations between reading difficulties and conduct problems.
