The role of the initial interaction in leader-member exchange
Article Abstract:
The role of the initial interaction between group leaders and group members was investigated by surveying 188 psychology students. The subjects were separated into groups consisting of a leader and three members. The leaders were surveyed about each of the members in their group, while the members were surveyed about their leader, as well as themselves. The leaders indicated that the quality of leader-membership interaction was related to their liking for group members, as well as the members' abilities. The members indicated that self-assessed ability was the only variable not related to the quality of the interaction.

The impact of top-management actions on employee attitudes and perceptions
Article Abstract:
The effects of top management's practices on employee commitment, job satisfaction, and role uncertainty were examined by surveying 862 insurance company workers. Five management practices were analyzed: creating and sharing an organizational goal, acting as a role model, encouraging creativeness, providing support for employees, and allowing employee participation in making job-related decisions. The results indicated that there was a strong relationship between top management's actions and employees' attitudes and perceptions.
