Therapists' perspectives of couple problems and treatment issues in couple therapy
Article Abstract:
Results from a survey of couple therapists indicate that the main problems experienced by couples are unrealistic expectations, extramarital affairs, communication, power struggles and a lack of loving feelings. The survey suggests that problems presented in couple therapy remained virtually the same during 1981-1996. Negative outcome-associated characteristics generated by therapists were found, such as the partners' lack of commitment and unwillingness to change.
