When time is of the essence: averaging, aspiration, and the short run
Article Abstract:
People choose differently according to whether the gamble is to be played just once or repeatedly. They do so to increase the likelihood that the chosen alternative would be better for them than the nonchosen alternative. Four themes underlie the difference between unique and repeated gambles, namely, the significance of weighted averaging in risky choice, the role of probability-based rules for choices involving aspiration levels, the idea of dual or multiple criteria for risky choice and skepticism on the conventional standards by which choices are judged as rational or irrational.

Preference for different sequences of increasing or decreasing rewards
Article Abstract:
The effects of different magnitudes and rates of change of reward on preference are analyzed. Rewards are used for actual task performance. Four increasing and four decreasing sequences are considered, each consisting of 24 rewards of different magnitude. Results reveal a weak correlation between pre- and post-experience preferences. However, they support previous findings, which have shown that preference for and choice of outcome sequences may be accompanied by an affective subcontext, depending both on situational and dispositional factors.
