Art Center College of Design
Article Abstract:
The Art Center College of Design's longstanding goal of producing designers and commercial artists who could find employment in today's market has been called into question in our modern information-based economy, with its accompanying social and environmental problems. The Art Center, located in Pasadena, CA, was founded by Edward A. Adams in 1930 as a place to teach the skills needed in the applied arts. The school, currently in the process of re-defining its goals, believes that its mission is to teach design as a means of improving the quality of life. Photographs of student work are shown.

Design and business
Article Abstract:
The recession has ravaged the UK and US design industries, hitting large global firms the hardest. Other factors contributing to the global firms' woes are the immaturity of the design business, the lack of multinational business skills among design entrepreneurs and the incompatibility of design firm culture with that of the successful international company.
