Desktop publishing in the black
Article Abstract:
A cost benefit analysis of desktop publishing should take into account all of the costs involved in the project, whether or not they are charged to the department undertaking the project. Estimates should be realistic and they should keep in mind the dynamic obsolescence of the equipment that is acquired. The kinds of equipment required should be tailored to needs, no less or no more than the job requires. Training should not be underestimated, everyone who uses the equipment should be familiar with all of its capabilities. Annual reviews of the system will allow for modifications in the overall plan and for an assessment of benefits in actual experience. Case studies of these reviews are included in the article.

The Underground Grammarian
Article Abstract:
Publishing on the Macintosh has led Richard Mitchell to produce a series of EPS graphics files called Typographer's Ornaments. The disks contain facsimiles of tailpieces, spots and ornaments from designers such as Frederic Goudy and Will Bradley, and are intended to stand as independent art as opposed to clip art. Mitchell recently began publishing the Underground Grammarian, one of the last hand-set publications, on the Macintosh and has always held the belief that 'To speak clearly is to think clearly.'
