Hassle-free Windows fonts: TrueType arrives
Article Abstract:
Microsoft's Windows graphical user interface upgrade, Microsoft Windows 3.1, now features TrueType to enable users to produce high-quality fonts on the fly. TrueType, a scalable font technology co-developed with Apple Computer Inc, enables Windows 3.1 to automatically provide four Monotype-designed TrueType scalable typeface families, including Times New Roman, Symbol, Courier and Arial. The package provides excellent results on screen and in print. The screen fonts have been adjusted to improve VGA display, and the characters are more legible, but users may not notice any improvement in display when it comes to getting an accurate view of text line length. In beta tests, the software handles type on the fly with high-quality results and provides faster screen redraws and printing capabilities than ATM 2.0.
