Mo' better blues
Article Abstract:
Version 2.0 of the Photoshop color image editing and painting software package from Adobe Systems Inc (Mountain View, CA) retains the ease of use of the first version while adding powerful new capabilities. New features include working in CMYK four-color process; saving images in hue-saturation-lightness (HSL) format in addition to the previously available RGB, HSB, gray-scale and bit-mapped modes; conversion of gray-scale images into duotone, tritone or quadtone modes; Bezier selection of complex objects; import of Illustrator-format EPS files; extensive controls over undercolor removal, gray component replacement and dot gain control; a variety of custom color models; and new color control features. The $895 Photoshop 2.0 requires a Macintosh SE or higher, System 6.04 or higher operating system and 2Mbytes RAM. This is an excellent choice for both novices and veterans.

Aldus IntelliDraw 1.0
Article Abstract:
Aldus Corp's $299 Aldus IntelliDraw drawing package is an exceptional package offering a range of illustration-program features. IntelliDraw is suited for creating multilayered graphics, generating and updating flowcharts, creating simple presentations and building three-dimensional-style technical drawings. The program is distinguished by its clever CAD-like tools that let users easily change and render objects. For example, the Symmetrigon tool lets users quickly generate any symmetrical object, while the Connection tool can bind different objects at any number of points. Mastering IntelliDraw requires some work; newcomers in particular will be confused by the opening screen, a mass of multiple palettes and toolboxes. The program does, however, provide an on-screen context-sensitive help box and an excellent 90-minute video tutorial.
