Rise and fall of CDNOW
Article Abstract:
CDNOW Inc, the first Web site to offer music downloads and custome CDs, based its 1990s e-marketing strategy on two main goals: to acquire customers and build brand recognition. But CDNOW lost money, recording losses of $212 million between 1994 and 2000. In Jul 2000, the company was bought by Bertelsman in a deal valued at $141 million. Industry observers see the possibility of new opportunities for CDNOW.

Bandwidth can also be a problem, and plug-ins are sometimes required.
