Sensible decision-making metrics
Article Abstract:
Publishers, using internal score cards that are based on the profitability of a title, need to review their metrics which aid them in right decision making and thus maximize their margins. It is suggested that changes are required in the scorecards to reflect the actual economics of the book by using contributions and overheads as the parameters to get to the actual margins figures.

A research conducted reveals two critical dimensions of the book publishing business that defines new axes of competition. The first competitive dimension is understanding the manner in which end-users consume publishers' content and second dimension includes the market performance that dictates financial success regarding the publishers' proximity to customers.
