Serving many masters: master pages make formatting and reformatting easy
Article Abstract:
The multiple master page feature included in many page layout programs is an extremely useful tool. QuarkXpress and Adobe Pagemaker both allow the use of different master pages within the same document. Common uses of this feature are for special chapter beginnings in a book, or a report with a special section for charts and diagrams. Extensive directions for using this technique are given. Use of multiple master pages can make elaborate document creation more efficient. The technique can also be used streamline the production process. Using multiple master pages as templates for ad spaces allows staff to complete the layout, then add in late or last-minute ads with the least amount of trouble. Master pages that reflect the standard ad sizes can be inserted as place holders, allowing the the text to be flowed into position.
