Sliding by: high-quality presentations with a low overhead
Article Abstract:
Creating 35mm slide presentations is easier using such presentation graphics programs as Aldus Persuasion and Xerox Presents, but it can be done much less expensively, if also less well, using a page layout program. Most such presentations are served very well by overhead transparencies, which can be created using a page layout program, a good printer and overhead transparency film. The page layout program should be set up to produce landscape pages; each page is treated as a separate overhead, with text entered and extra graphic elements added. PostScript printers are preferred for output because they can rotate any font to create landscape-oriented text, saving time and money in creating horizontal visuals. It is possible to create effective if unspectacular slides using a page layout program, although such features as color gradient backgrounds, predefined color palettes and templates found in presentation packages will be sorely missed.

Now you see it; to make better presentations, put your right brain forward - get visual
Article Abstract:
It is important to provide clear visual, as well as verbal, information when giving a presentation. Drawing is a method of strengthening visualization skills and can enhance the quality of communication. It can add clarity when there is an overabundance of data. Becoming an artist is not necessary in order to communicate more effectively. Rather, a basic understanding of how shapes and colors relate to one another is all that is required. Exploring the visual and creative self versus the verbal, rational self is what is required. Robert McKim's book, 'Experiences in Visual Thinking,' describes a variety of methods to help prompt the visual imagination. Various drawing exercises can help unleash creative visualization.
