Where east meets west: Controversies of textbook publishing in small former communist countries
Article Abstract:
An overview of textbook publishing in the European and small communist countries is presented. It is stated that the positive and negative effects of the introduction of textbook markets to former communist countries need to be considered taking into account the overall processes of the democratization of the education systems in those countries, as former communist countries are becoming emerging markets for textbooks from Western Europe and United States.
