Airfield plans grounded
Article Abstract:
Developer ADL is appealing against Huntingdonshire County Council's decision not to let it build a multi-modal freight distribution park at a former military airfield. The 405 ha site at RAF Alconbury was abandoned by the US Airforce in 1995 and ADL expects to provide up to 7,000 jobs if its plans are approved.

Issues concerning ways in which the road traffic congestion can be avoided by the freight industry are discussed. Particular attention is given to the prospect of using the railway system for transporting goods. Political and administrative aspects of rail transportation of gods are examined.
