Converting shopping centers into campuses
Article Abstract:
Automation will make retail stores more efficient with the result that stores will need less retail space. In addition, the efficiency created by automation will make many workers redundant, and the laid-off workers will require retraining. Shopping centers can capitalize on this trend by leasing their facilities as training space to companies or by offering their own vocational services. Both approaches will improve occupancy rates which can be expected to decline with the spread of automation and the increasing efficiency of retail operations.
