Cutting car parking will set off alarms
Article Abstract:
It is clear that the UK needs a sustainable transportation policy. However, it is wrong for the government to expect people to abandon the benefits of car ownership altogether. Transportation policies must recognize that it will be vital for some time to come to use a car for some journeys. Attempting to reduce car use through cutting the amount of parking spaces available could in fact have a negative impact on sustainable transportation policies. Car use will not really decline significantly until public transportation improves, and there are few indications yet of this taking place.
