DOE tightens green belt policy
Article Abstract:
The UK Department of the Environment has tightened curbs on building on greenfield sites through PPG2, revised guidance on planning policy. Infilling and redevelopment are to be more tightly controlled and there will be safeguarded land to be used on a long-term basis for homes or employment. John Gummer, the UK Environment Secretary, has emphasised the importance of green belts in the policies of the UK government toward planning. He aims to foster growth within land currently urbanised.

Auctioneers set to benefit from residential gloom
Article Abstract:
The continuing relatively high numbers of house repossessions by lenders in the UK are likely to ensure that auctioneers' catalogues remain full during 1995. Auctioneer Allsop & Co. has recently sold 60 properties from Halifax Building Society, one of the largest providers of stock, and the trend is set to continue. Most auctioneers say that the majority of their clients are lending corporations. The total number of repossessions in 1994 is expected to be 50,000, against 58,000 in 1993.
