Down but not out
Article Abstract:
The city of Derby, England, has welcomed the exposure generated by its bid to be selected as the venue for the Millennium Exhibition, despite its failure to be shortlisted. However, the city's Pride Park 2000, a regeneration site, could still win funding for a National Science Centre. It is estimated that vacant office space within a two mile radius of the city centre totals 21,367 sq mt, but most of it is secondhand. In the industrial sector, there has been little speculative development and there is a short supply of new space.

Field of dreams
Article Abstract:
There is a growing shortage of land for industrial use in East Hertfordshire, England, and for this reason some observers are expressing concerns about the possibility of the 8.1 ha Canada Fields site between Hoddesdon, England, and Broxbourne, England, being used for retail development. Gary Hirsch, head of planning at Broxbourne borough council, believes that up to 9,290 sq mt of retail space would be acceptable on this site, as long as the space is used for the sale of bulky goods and the units are at least 929 sq mt.
