Rising to face the challenge
Article Abstract:
A shopping center is planned for Braehead, Strathclyde, Scotland, and the impact on nearby Paisley has yet to be assessed. Some analysts argue that the effect has been exaggerated and Paisley will not lose all its retailers. Others are more pessimistic as to Paisley's future. The river Clyde provides a barrier which could protect Clydebank from the impact of Braehead. A retail park is being completed near Drumchapel, the Great Western Retail Park, and this could affect Clydebank.

Travels on the shopping train
Article Abstract:
Retailers from towns such as Irvine in south western Scotland are faced with competition from retailers in Glasgow. There is some evidence of a revival of the retail industry in Ayr which ranks first among centers in south west Scotland. Irvine has benefited from a refurbishment at the Rivergate retail center. Loreburne Center in Dumfries has yet to achieve sufficient critical mass to be successful. The center was also launched at a time when recession was affecting sales.
