Global TransPark: ushering in the 21st century

North Carolina's industrial park project, the Global TransPark, is touted to lead the state into the global markets. The industrial park boasts of an integrated transportation, communication and power infrastructure that would serve the needs of companies competing in the global economy. The state government has invested $16 mil for the park's planning and has committed another $25 mil for land acquisition, with local governments committing $125 mil for the acquisition of the jetport and another $40 mil for water and sewer improvements. The park will have transport connections to its own airport, with an advanced cargo handling facility. This airport will also have connections to rail and highway transport.

Computer networking firm Cabletron owes part of its successful growth as a company to its Ironton (Lawrence County, OH) workforce. Cableton executives were surprised at the skill and trainability of the workforce at Ironton, who could halve the time from training to the workfloor. Cabletron was able to increase its initial employee number of 20 to around 460. Cabletron managed to grow into a company with sales of $1.1 bil in 14 years, owning 30% of the computer networking hardware and software market due to the diligence and skill of its workers.

Southern Ohio: a workable solution
Article Abstract:
The down-to-earth atmosphere and disposition of Southern Ohio and its people make for lasting relationships, especially seen in the workplace. A number of Fortune 500 firms have been in Southern Ohio for decades, complimenting the area for the loyalty and dedication of its workers. Generations after generations of workers are known to stay in Southern Ohio due to family relations. The down-to-earth attitude of the area's workers make for dedicated employees, who come to work on time and show personal pride in their work.
