Independence daze
Article Abstract:
In-house surveyors may face some difficulty in being accepted as an expert witnesses, in UK courts. Discrimination against in-house surveyors does exist. Private surveyors are seen as having greater expertise than their in-house colleagues. Some observers have suggested in-house surveyors have only a limited expertise although they often have superior knowledge in some areas, such as in mineral surveys. In-house surveyors can fulfill all the necessary criteria as expert witnesses but some observers still question if they are able to give independent evidence.

Time-limits running out
Article Abstract:
The UK Arbitration Act 1996 Section 12 has restricted the reasons why a judge can allow a time extension in arbitration cases and therefore extending the time limit will occur only rarely. In rent review cases a party which fails to comply with all of the clauses will not find it easy to obtain a time extension. A case heard in the UK courts between the Harbour and General Works Ltd. (H and G) and the Environmental Agency did not allow H and G a time extension.
