Kentucky, with its transportation capabilities and people skills, has taken steps to move beyond its image of rolling fields and horse farms. Ranked among the top 10 in terms of new and expanded facilities, the state also ranked No. 1 in terms of new jobs per 1 million population from 1997 to 1999. Its revamped economic development program and legislative changes, such as work-force issues like education and training, have produced a good business climate. Maryland: retooling for the future
Article Abstract:
Maryland's conducive business atmosphere is a product of major tax cuts and innovative technology. Since 1995, the state cut 16 individual business taxes as part of its incentive package to businesses. Maryland has also developed an online business license application, the Businesses Licenses Information System, to entice prospective clients to establish a presence in the state. In addition, the state has also provided income tax credits for businesses that create employment opportunities.
