Magnetic appeal
Article Abstract:
The 250 million pounds sterling West Quay shopping centre is being constructed in Southampton, England, on the site of the former Pirelli factory. It will border on the existing successful 30 million pounds sterling West Quay retail park. When it opens in autumn 2000, it will cover 70,604 sq mt of retail space. Key retailers will be Marks and Spencer and John Lewis Partnership. Some observers believe that the prime Above Bar shopping pitch will consolidate around the entrance to the West Quay centre. This will bring a significant shift in Southampton's retail focus.

Five go shopping
Article Abstract:
Oxford, England, is a city with some of the highest rents outside London. Development space is short and traffic congestion is bad, though plans are in hand to pedestrianise the Cornmarket, a popular shopping area. Town centre enhancement and new retail development is planned for the county towns of Banbury, Bicester, Didcot and Witney, with Didcot seen to be one of the fastest growing towns.
