New FASB rules for mortgage servicing rights
Article Abstract:
The new Financial Accounting Standards Board rule number 122 changes the rules for valuing mortgage servicing rights (MSR). It was issued in May 1995 and ended the accounting distinction between origination activities MSRs and open market MSRs. Some mortgage bankers may change their behavior and nonbank mortgage companies may increase their profits and stock prices.
