Pursuing a purse-string policy
Article Abstract:
The UK real estate industry pays lower starting salaries than other careers such as law and finance. Banks will pay between 17,500 pounds sterling and 20,000 pounds for graduates, compared with 12,500 pounds paid by real estate firms. Employees who have retained their posts in the early 1990s recession are in a good position for promotion in 1995. There is little movement in the public sector job market, though some local authorities are contracting out property requirements.

Improving access to a working life
Article Abstract:
The UK real estate industry could help disabled people have better access to buildings through improved design and construction methods. There are some 6 million disabled people in the UK and the real estate industry can shoulder the responsibility for some of the discrimination affecting these people. Disabled employees can perform better than their able-bodied colleagues. The case of a surveyor who broke his back but is able to drive illustrates this point.
