Property investors are showing much interest in retail property in the UK, according to a survey by Estates Gazette and Investment Property Forum. Offices, shopping centres and retail warehouses are yielding around 7%. Retail stores are yielding 5.7%, but there is doubt that the rate can remain so high with inflation down. Revenue from rentals is likely to fall in 1997, with offices showing the greatest fall.

Slough Estates poised for new development spree
Article Abstract:
The recent rise in demand for space has prompted Slough Estates to develop a plan which will involved starting on 600,000 sq ft of new space by the end of 1995. Businesses are seeking more efficient manufacturing and distribution space, according to the company, and occupancy of its 1.8 billion pounds sterling portfolio is currently at around 93%. It is also active in Germany and Belgium.

For sale sign on Harmony as Galliard deal trips up

City institutions have not given their approval to plans by Galliard Homes for a reverse takeover of investment group Harmony Property. The latter concern is still up for sale, believing that it is now time for consolidation among small listed property companies. At present, it has a 12.5% stake held by its board, with an identical shareholding being owned by Edinburgh Fund Managers.
