ScotAm voices concern on Pensions Bill provisions
Article Abstract:
The Pensions Bill will serve a valuable role in protecting investors, but could damage the property sector, according to David Hunter, property director at Scottish Amicable Investment Management. The Bill's provision for delegating trustees' liability could work against property, with trustees being deterred from investing in property because of the greater risks they will have to bear. The trustee liability issue is due to be reconsidered at the end of May 1995.

Relishing a risky business
Article Abstract:
Quintain Estates and Development are hoping to be floated on the United Kingdom stock exchange within the near future, following the success of their business during the three years. The company portfolio will be worth between 95-100 million pounds sterling by March 1996. It buys reversionary leasehold properties at rock-bottom prices with cash, although it has to balance these with high-yield purchases to maintain medium and long-term company objectives.

Barclays takes second hit on Paris headquarters
Article Abstract:
Barclays Bank's headquarters building in Paris, France, is now worth only a third of its 1990 value. The 25,000 sq mt appears on the bank's balance sheet with an 'at cost' value of 1.5 billion French francs, but this does not represent its true value. The bank is now to sell off its 200 million pounds sterling commercial property portfolio in France.
