Seaside survivor
Article Abstract:
Southend-on-Sea, Essex, is a fading seaside resort that is aiming to transform itself into a commercial centre with the revamp of its local airport. It is planned to rejuvenate the airport, renamed London Southend and owned by Regional Airports, and to increase passenger numbers from just 10,000/y to around 700,000/y, as seen during the 1960s. Disused land around the site is being developed and a railway link to London's Liverpool Street is planned.

Finding lodgings
Article Abstract:
Yates Brothers Wine Lodges are rapidly expanding their business and plan to open 25 new premises during 1998. They prefer to locate their outlets in urban areas near other leisure facilities and shops. The company chooses premises in towns with about 60,000 residents, although the recent upturn in the property market has made finding sites more difficult. Their Blob Shop outlets require smaller sites but are still situated near the centre of town.
