Council leaders in Preston, England, are in dispute with representatives of the major breweries who want to redevelop some retail sites into public houses. The council would prefer more retailers to move into town centre units. The planned renovation of the St George's shopping centre is due to commence in Summer 1997, at a cost of 23 million pounds sterling. Some 100 acres of land at the Preston East Industrial Park has been identified as an area for distribution, production and office development. The market for offices in Preston is very slow with many second-hand properties for sale.

The M65 motorway extension will have a great affect on businesses in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, and make it more competitive with Preston, England. The M65 extension is planned to be in use by Dec 1997 and will reduce the journey from Blackburn to either the M61 or M6 considerably. In 1996 the central shopping area in Blackburn was refurbished. Office rents in Blackburn have increased to over 6.50 pounds sterling per sq ft. The area around the M65 junction is being redeveloped, with the creation of four new industrial and commercial parks.

Industrial property development in the Park Royal district, West London, England, is gathering pace with land prices and rents rising in line with the increasing demand. Some 42 million pounds sterling was awarded to the area to help fund regeneration projects. A new leisure facility is planned on a former dumping ground. Large and small industrial units are being developed on the Coronation Park site. Traffic problems in the area have yet to be resolved. Park Royal is located within a short distance from Marble Arch.
