Strong links on supply
Article Abstract:
Some observers point out the very efficient methods of distribution used by Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in the US, will force British supermarkets to improve their systems now Wal-Mart has acquired ASDA. Wal-Mart tends to have more goods in transit or in their shops rather than in distribution areas. Only 55% of floorspace in ASDA supermarkets is reserved for retailing goods compared to 88% in Wal-Mart stores. Some property experts point out Wal-Mart may face planning difficulties in the UK, if they wish to build very large distribution centres.
