The 1998 Legal 500

The UK property industry will show considerable interest in the 1998 edition of the Legal 500, produced by Legalease. The most significant development in property law since 1997 has been the fact that City firm Berwin Leighton has become market leader for general commercial property advice. This firm's property department is now in joint first place with Clifford Chance and Linklaters, which are both rated highly for property. Other leading property lawyers include Ashurst Morris Crisp and Cameron McKenna.

Clifford Chance tops Legal 500
Article Abstract:
The UK's leading property law firms for 1996 are Linklaters and Paines and Clifford Chance. The latter firm, which moved a long way up the rankings compared with 1995, has been involved in a number of large property deals recently, including the sale of Canary Wharf and advising in property in Railtrack's privatisation. There has been particularly strong activity in the investment and institutional sectors.

Linklaters has top billing in UK Legal 500 guide
Article Abstract:
The City law firm which is most popular for commercial property deals is Linklaters and Paines, according to 'The Legal 500 - The Client's Guide to UK Law Firms, 1995.' The company has retained this position for the fifth consecutive year, although there have been changes elsewhere in the rankings. Joint second place is now held by Lovell White Durrant and Ashurst Morris Crisp.
