The schemes that got away
Article Abstract:
Several property development projects were planned for the UK during the 1980s but many failed to materialize due to prohibitive costs, over adventurous designs and objections by local people. The London Regeneration Co, put forward extensive plans to develop a 125 acre site in London, England, which failed to come to fruition due to financial difficulties of one of the companies involved in the scheme and local objections. The redevelopment of Paternoster Square, London, has undergone several different designs since 1987, all of which have failed to gain approval.

Speculators at the ready
Article Abstract:
The increasing demand for office space in Birmingham, England, is unlikely to be satisfied by the number of speculative building schemes planned for the city. Office sites outside the city are very popular due to the less restrictive parking laws which are in contrast to the highly regulated parking in the city. Some local agents suggest that there will be gap in the office market if speculative building projects are not started in near future. Construction of the 140,000 sq ft Four Brindleyplace building is planned to commence in 1997.
