Western firms are failing to reap the potential rewards of investing in the recovering and extensive Russian market, mainly due to a fear of crime, corruption and the complex legal system which openly discourages Western investment. Firms which take positive action to understand the cultural differences between West and East have found the barriers against investment and development hard to break down, although some have achieved success against all the odds.
