Article Abstract:
Kenneth W. Jones, South Asian historian, died on September 22 1996. Jones completed his degree, MA and PhD at the University of California, Berkeley; following which he joined the staff at Kansas State University, teaching Indian history and civilsation. Jones was appointed University Distinguished Professor in 1989. A memorial fund has been created in his honour at Kansas State University.

Burton Stein, 1926-1996
Article Abstract:
Burton Stein, professor of South Asian studies, died on April 26 1996. Stein's career included stints at the University of Minnesota and the University of Hawaii, along with visiting professorships at the Universities of Pennsylvania, California, Washington, Chicago, and Jawaharlal Nehru. Stein was particularly interested in premodern and colonial South India.

An obituary is presented of the historian and author George Edmond Taylor who died in 2000. His career as an academic and his authorship of several influential historical books are discussed.
