Article Abstract:
The year 1997 in poetry is surveyed for France and Quebec. Notable publications include 'A distance' by Henri Michaux, as well as works by Francis Ponge, Rene Char, Yves Bonnefoy, Salah Stetie, Jude Stefan, and Pierre Garnier. In the new generation of poets, Yves Leclair, Claude de Burine, Jean-Claude Pinson, and Sandra Moussempes stand out. In Quebec, works by Anne Hebert, Roland Giguere, Nicole Brossard, Jacques Brault, Claude Beausoleil, Yoland Villemaire, Jean-Pierre Guay, Marcel Labine, Pierre Nepveu, Serge Legagneur, and Philippe Haeck are among those deserving notice. France has enjoyed in 1996 a prolific year for poetry. Anthologies published have numbered 50 while translations and literary criticism have also found a place. Some poets, such as Andre Breton and Gilbert Lely, have had works published in their entirety. Well-known poets such as Philippe Jacottet have also had 1996 publications and contemporary female authors such as Esther Tellerman and Heather Dohollau have joined their number. Writers gaining a name such as Emmanuel Moses also had 1996 publications. The text of the article is in French.
