A gentle occupation
Article Abstract:
The film 'Lucie Aubrac' only deals with the moral and political complexities associated with the German occupation of France during the second world war to the extent that they affect the lives of ordinary people, according to Claude Berri, the film's director. The film focuses closely on the lives of Lucie and Raymond Aubrac, a real couple who resisted the German occupation, but cannot really be called a chamber piece. Berri believes that the story merited the extremely large scale on which the film is made.

His idea of humour is using someone with the shakes to hold a fan
Article Abstract:
European audiences tend to take films much more seriously than Japanese audiences, according to Japanese film-maker, television programme producer, actor and magazine columnist Takeshi Kitano. He is highly respected in Japan, where has a very strong presence, but is almost unknown in the west. He used comedy as a way of escaping from his background, where crime and violence were rife. He believes his success is largely due to the way in which he challenges traditional Japanese humour.

Dogs, trailers, porn stars: screwball comedy for the 1990s
Article Abstract:
The first feature film produced by Joel Hershman, 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,' has a similar style to the screwball films associated with directors such as Preston Sturges and Leo McCarey. Hershman originally trained as an actor, but has now moved into directing, being prepared to take on a risky, low-budget project. He has an abrasive style of comedy which will not appeal to all audiences.
