A good time to help Ashdown and start on PR
Article Abstract:
The UK Liberal Democrats will not have a decisive impact on political developments while the Labour party continues to hold a very large majority. However, Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown carries considerable psychological weight. He cannot fail to gain support from some Labour MPs if he criticizes the government on its health or education spending, and will be able to exploit the fact that many new Labour MPs support electoral reform. Furthermore, the Liberal Democrats are now much stronger in relation to the main opposition party than they were in the previous administration.

Ashdown in move to educate parents
Article Abstract:
It is vital to invest an additional 2 billion pounds sterling in education, rather than using any surplus funds to reduce income tax, according to Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown. He also believes that parents should take more responsibility for the behaviour and academic performance of their children in return for extra spending on education. It is crucial that parents play a very strong role in education, and he has suggested a 'contract between school and home,' under which parents are given more information about how to help their children.

A radical vision of Commons reform
Article Abstract:
The UK political scene is currently in a chaotic state, according to Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown. He believes that the House of Commons should be granted the right to vote to elect a prime minister if a hung parliament emerges, rather than using the traditional method of royal appointment. He emphasises that there is no reason not to change the UK constitution, and is calling on the Labour party to back his party's efforts to bring about constitutional reform.
