A guilt-free escape from bad weather and boring food
Article Abstract:
Experiences of escaping London, England, to spend Christmas in Cape Town, South Africa, are described. The beauty of the Cape region is discussed, and the joy of having a non-traditional Christmas lunch in a restaurant is described. Attention is also given to the social divisions that still remain in South Africa between blacks and whites and between native South Africans and newly-arrived Europeans. The sharp contrasts between Christmas in the UK and Christmas in South Africa are explored.

The game of soccer exists in a different moral universe
Article Abstract:
The case of football players Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer, who are alleged to have attacked Sarfraz Najeib, raises questions about the behaviour of football players in the UK and about their treatment by their clubs. It is clear that the Football Association must take more decisive action against the most powerful clubs.

Two Americas divided by the death penalty
Article Abstract:
Most Americans are in favour of the execution of Timothy McVeigh, who killed 168 people with a bomb in Oklahoma City, OK. However, it can be argued that McVeigh's execution is an act of barbarism, as taking his life does not show that his actions were wrong.
