Taking a Shine to Shakespeare
Article Abstract:
Actor and director Geoffrey Rush is very keen to convey to audiences the raw theatrical energy which characterized vaudeville performances he saw as a child in his native Australia. He gained a strong basic training at the Queensland Theatre Company, but did not lose his passion for vaudeville. He remained relatively unknown until he appeared as David Helfgott in 'Shine.' He is now directing a production of 'The Popular Mechanicals' at the Unicorn Arts Theatre in London, England.

Big man with a big appetite for the big time
Article Abstract:
It is important not to make too clear a distinction between the tragic and comic modes, as they coexist in real life, according to actor Desmond Barrit. He believes that the most important thing an actor can do is give a genuine performance, whether in comedy or tragedy. He has become one of the leading comic actors in the UK since the second half of the 1980s, and has not lacked work at any point during his career, which began in 1979.
